The televised undercard is one 8-round fight between Gary Russell and Leonilo Miranda. Miranda is 26-3 with 25 KOs, while 17-0 with 10 KOs.
Here we go.
Round 1
Roy Jones Jr. adds that some say that Russell's hands are as fast as his used to be. Miranda circles the ring and lands first with a jab. He counters a jab with a right hook. Russell's hands do indeed like quick. He follows a jab of his own with a right hood to the body. Russell gets Miranda in the corner, but doesn't pull the trigger. Russell gets Miranda against the ropes and lands a vicious combo that knocks Miranda off balance. Russell lands a right hook right on Miranda's mouth. His best punch of the fight.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 2
Russell is getting more comfortable, throwing more punches other than his jab. Miranda lands a right to the body. Miranda is in the corner. He tries to fight out, but Russell gets in some excellent shots. Russell comes back firing and lands shots to the body. Miranda gets tangled in the ropes, pausing the action momentarily. Miranda lands a jab plus a cross. Russell is showing some slick movement, dodging punches and answering with quick counters. That round was closer than the first, but should still go to Russell.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 3
Miranda is shuffling around to start round 3. Miranda lands a right to the body and a left to the head. He loads up with a big left but misses badly. Russell's hand speed is great, but his accuracy is lacking. If more of his punches would land this fight may have been over already. Russell lands a right to the body. Miranda answers back with a left upstairs.
Parker: 10-9 Miranda
Round 4
Russell gets Miranda in the corner again, but has trouble capitalizing. Russell is mixing up his punches beautifully. Two to the body. Two more upstairs. Miranda looks wobbly. Miranda may have his legs back under him. He counters with a left hook. Russell fires back with an incredible flurry, right on the head. Less force coming from Miranda's hands. Russell's body attack has had an effect. Good round for Russell.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 5
Miranda comes out firing. Russell blocks it well and answers back with a burtal combo to the head. Miranda is on wobbly legs. Russell goes to work and lands more hooks upstairs. Miranda isn't out of this yet. He comes back, but his punches don't have enough behind them to do any real damage to Russell. Russell scores up top once more. Now a couple punches to the body. Now back upstairs.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 6
Miranda comes out swining once again. Russell again uses his defense to weather the storm and land a combo of his own. Russell throws a lightning-fast 10 punch combo. Miranda ducks under the ropes again to break the action. Russell goes back to work and lands more upstairs. I can't believe Miranda is still on his feet. Russell knocks Miranda against the ropes with a mean left hook. This fight could really be stopped if this keeps up.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 7
Russell continues to dominate into round 7. Miranda moves around the ring against the ropes. Russell tries to catch him. Russell lands a left hook to the body. Miranda is in the corner again. He fights out. Russell lands another flurry. Miranda lands a jab. Russell goes exclusively to the body, landing a five hook combo downstairs.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Round 8
Last round of the fight. I thought Russell would come out firing, looking for a knock out. He looks more cautious. Oh here we go. Another 10 punch combo from Russell. His speed is ridiculous. Miranda still stands, and continues to punch as well. Miranda gets Russell against the ropes ands lands a couple punches to the head of Russell. Russell comes right back with his punches that makes Miranda's look like that are in slow motion. 20 seconds left. In the last 10 seconds, Russell gives everything he has left and fires and lands at will. Great finish and fight for this up-and-comer. I'd like to add that there wasn't one clinch in the whole fight.
Parker: 10-9 Russell
Parker 79-72
The judges score the bout 80-72, 80-72 and 79-72 all for the winner by unanimous decision "Mr." Gary Russell Jr.
